At this location in the 12th arrondissement of Paris, the Fathers of Christian Doctrine founded a convent in 1677. In 1790, the Constituent Assembly created the commune of Bercy, turning the convent church into a parish church. It was demolished in 1821 and rebuilt in 1824 to plans by the architect André-Marie Châtillon. During the Commune in 1871, it was set on fire and rebuilt in 1873. Although reconstruction began quickly, its completion took much longer: the flat coffered ceilings were not finished until the early 20th century. To make up for this delay, the Seine Prefecture provided the building with remarkable religious paintings from the classical period. Also worth noting is a rarity: a tin-leaf statue of the “Good Thief,” the only one of its kind in France, dating from 1995.
